Rim Ride
Difficulties: Moderate but short

Trailshot: First there's most of a mile of easy up and down, along a rather fun desert doubletrack. Then a right turn up toward the nearby skyline, climbing for about one half-mile (sometimes steeply).

Suddenly the contour goes negative in a big way. You're looking across the Colorado River Valley at Nevada. When you're finished, turn left for a two mile whoop & holler 2-track rollercoaster, straddling the rim. Then turn 'n burn back to Go.

It's a short, 4000 ft. high ride, suitable for a gaggle of semi-buff weekend warriors. (with cameras)

 Where is it?

From Kingman, travel up Highway 93 toward Las Vegas about 27 miles to Cottonwood Road, just south of milepost 45. It's 3 miles south of Pierce Ferry Road, or 7 miles north of the road to Chloride. Turn left (west) and procede ten easy miles across Detrial Valley and up the gentle slope until it tops out at the rim. Park on the left.

Beyond here Cottonwood road drops 3000 feet to Lake Mohave, eight miles away. Next to the parking is an old ranch road controlled by a stop sign, that heads south.

Now, apply that pedal extremity to the metal pedal.

 Map of Rim Drive Ride
Along the scenic route

The route is very simple. Just go south, then right at the fork. Climb until you reach the rim, then south to the rocks at rim's end. There's an extra mile of riding from there down to Lost Cabin Spring, but you'll have to puff to get back up.

From the spring, the track you came down on continues across to the east, but I haven't tried it yet.

Do not  take the well bladed road downhill to the southeast, 'cause it drops 3000 feet thru sand to the river. (hasta la vista, baby!)
